Izzy 4:3 Role Play and being 4

I just noticed how many of the recent posts are about Role Play.  It really is how she spends most of her day, from changing clothes to using props, both of which enhance her play.
At home her role play is mostly by herself as her sisters are a bit old to join her in this type of play (I of course am not).
When at school with similar aged friends the role play takes many forms, usually depending on the stages of the children she is with, she and her friends can shift between solitary to parallel to associative and sometimes cooperative group play ( short bursts).
But through all this Role Play she is developing and learning about her world, she is making sense of her thoughts and ideas and is confident to test them out.

Izzy 4:3 Outside Play

The importance of outside play is so over looked, children learn to take risks, to challenge themselves, they see other children and begin to learn about the social order and how to join and take turns.

Izzy 4:3 Common sense role play

These baby dolls have been in the attic for a few years and izzy loves them. She shows great care and common sense when playing with these dolls.

Izzy 4:4 sharing

I love this photo because it took her so long to position her pony and then arrange the blankets on them both.

Izzy 4:3 Swimming on a Blue Blanket

Izzy laid out the blue blanket, changed clothes then put on a snorkel mask. She managed to get her Dad to play diving of the chair into the ocean to swim.

Izzy 4:3 Being a Tree

Today Izzy showed me how to be a tree.

These leaves we're given to Izzy by her big sister, giving her natures shades of Green.

Izzy 4:3 Hammer & Pins

Izzy put the animals and people on the bottom of the cork board and the sun and cloud on the top. Making sense of the world around her.

Izzy 4:3 Staying in the Shade

The latest game on the way to school is 'staying cool in the shade'. I of course encourage her to stay in the shade if she gets hot so we have talked a lot about when we stand in the shade we feel cooler.

Izzy had developed her own version where the bears are chasing us and in the shade they cannot see us but in the sun we either have to run fast to the shade or tiptoe quietly.
Going to school is a lot of fun for us, there are so many things we can do. I always leave plenty of time for this walk because it is so important for her, she has my undivided attention and she knows this is her time.

Izzy 4:3 role play

Here Izzy is going to the beach, the umberella is of course a main part and is quite tricky to put up but she manages it and is very proud of herself.

Izzy 4:3 Role Play

To sit and quietly watch Izzy role playing is amazing, the adventures she goes on and the experiences she works through with verbal and non verbal communication gives me so much information on her developmental stages.

Izzy 4:3 physical exercise & confidence

Izzy is the youngest of four and has always been a dare devil. She has good confidence when climbing and jumping and although there have been a few falls it is good she is able to take some risks when playing outside.

Izzy 4:3 writing numbers

Izzy freely uses her writing skills throughout the day.

Izzy 4:3 Sandpaper letters

We are continuing to use
our Sandpaper Letters especially through the knock knock game.
